African Queen was built in Sydney and then moved to Lake Eildon when it was sold to Bruce and Wendy Scoones. She came to the Gippsland Lakes (Metung) after that and was on sold to Ric and Joan Carter in 1984 and moored at Squatters Row. Ian and Judy White then bought her in 1990 but poor health saw the boat again on sold. Bill Bird purchased her in the late 90s and employed John Duffy, master shipwright, to restore her and build a new super structure. The Perkins 4/108 diesel was installed by Ronnie Rankin. Bill maintained the African Queen well, with the help of Gary Smith. We bought her in 2015 and she now lives on a berth on Raymond Island.
